In light to the recent cyber attack of ransomware which goes by the name “WannaCry” has affected more over 99 countries. This attack is believed to use the exploit tool called “ETERNALBLUE” which was leaked from the NSA, by the hacker group called ShadowBrokers. 

Individuals, Institutions, Corporations and Hospitals around more than 99 countries have been affected by a recent ransomware attack know WNCry, WCry, WanaCrypt0r, Wana Decrypt0r Ransomware.

Where did it all began?

1. Ransomware? This is now not a new malware. Over the past 3-4 years, ransomware has made sure it is one such malware which has made quite an (damaging) impact on not just individuals but big and small corporations alike.

Over the past few years, since around 2010‒2012, this new Trojan malware called Ransomware has seen a growth. It is reported by some Antivirus companies that the growth rate of Ransomware is over 100‒200% each year.  The financial losses each year are in millions of dollars.

Pundits are calling it the rise and rise of ransomware. Ever since cyber criminals saw the potential of having individuals and enterprises at their mercy by gaining access to personal and professional information, cybersecurity experts are facing one of the biggest challenges in the last few years. In 2016, the number of attacks grew five fold and warnings were issued from government officials in many countries including the UAE.
